Artificial Intelligence improved Ulysses by James Joyce.

Created by squashing the entirety of Joyce’s famously unreadable epic into an AI algorithm, this ‘improved’ version allows for a breezy read in just under 30 pages.

I’ve been experimenting with bots and using emerging technology with traditional arts & music, and I thought it would make a fun and somewhat redundant bit of Dadaism to see what computer programmes would make of Joyce. The result is an interesting and unusual read that really captures a snapshot of Joyce’s writing. Partly inspired by William Burroughs and his cut-up methodology, it feels a lot like an absurd Irish Naked Lunch.

It doesn’t make for much of a story but at least it’s over quickly.
